Dell :: Tools For Tracking Hdd Space Hogs?
Feb 21, 2010Any one know of tools to track down what is consuming space on a hard drive partition?
I am trying to provide remote support for my mother-in-law's Inspiron 8200. Last summer I put in a new HDD and maxed the RAM to get a couple more years out of it. I partitioned the drive into 10GB and 70GB. I installed Win XP home + all service packs and updates, prgrams etc. on C:.
I moved "My Documents" to the second partition, the drive letter ended up as E: for the second partition (optical drive is D. She only has about 3 GB of data so there should not be any issues.
She recently called saying that attempting to install TurboTax resulted in an insufficient disk space error. When I had her look into it, C: is almost full, 9.5GB used. This seems unreasonable to me. I have a couple of other laptops configured similarly and the OS and programs only take about 6.5GB. This lady is not one to install lots of stuff.
My daughter is there visiting so I had her read me the space taken by each folder in the C: partition. Adding up the numbers it seems that there is at least a couple of gig unaccounted for. Do I have to actually go into every folder to find any space hogs? Nothing I heard so far seems unreasonably large.
I am suspecting some kind of bug or spyware is creating a file that is consuming the space on C:. I had a problem with Zone Alarm 9 creating a ridiculous log file on one of my boxes but she is not running ZA.
E: has plenty of space only the 3GB of data in My Docs.
Dell :: Does Outlet Purchases Have Tracking Numbers
Apr 8, 2009Do outlet items have tracking numbers when they are shipped? It's been 3 days and it still says data unavailable. On the other hand, the S2009W I ordered with the XPS sale event had a tracking number the moment it shipped.

May 26, 2009So my Dell XPS M1730 finally got shipped this morning! (Yay). The thing is the dell person expedited my order and gave me free next business day delivery.
Since it got shipped today, shouldn't it come tomorrow (Hence the name next business day)? The dell estimated delivery date says the 29th ( Which I won't be home on )

Feb 22, 2009First time ordering from Dell. I ordered an Inspiron 1318 notebook on 2/19, and the estimated shipping date is 3/6.
The estimated delivery date is 3/13. I was wondering if those dates seemed like accurate estimations or if there are likely to be delays.

Feb 15, 2009I bought a Dell Mini 9 from the outlet and its already shipped. I'm having second thoughts though because of the $245 deal through Sam's club for a brand new one when I payed $230 for a used one.
I'm also not sure if I even need a netbook since I have a XPS M1530 and want to hold off until the 09 Fall Semester to get a netbook (if I decide I want one).
So my question is this: Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee if I refuse delivery? Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee for returning through Dell? Does it depend on whether I open the box or not? Would I have to pay for shipping?/not be refunded shipping/taxes?
Dell :: Defective Laptop Upon Delivery
Jun 9, 2009I ordered a xps 1340, recieved it today, after working with tech support deemed the slot load rom drive is dead.
I did not get on site service when i was ordering, that said I absolutely offended by and refuse to follow their process to resolve this.
That being me shipping a laptop i have had less than 2 hours back to dell for them to hopefully fix the issue and then wait for the shipment back.

Apr 11, 2010My Dell Studio XPS 16 (core i7 model) was ordered april 6th. The estimated delivery date was originally 4/22/10 but yesterday I logged on to see my status and it said that my laptop was "In Production" and that the NEW estimated date of delivery is 4/14/10....that means they changed my EDD to 8 days before the ORIGINAL date. Well, the 14th is in 3 days...and my laptop is still "in production" so did dell make an error on the site? If not, does that mean that it only takes 2 or 3 days for things to get delivered?

Now we ordered a few new Studio 1747 with the Core i7 820 procs the order date was 1 December.. But now i got a mail that the delivery date is pushed back to 17 of February!! Wooot???
It seems that dell is many times just saying that you can order new systems but most of the time they can deliver one bit?

Jan 6, 2010I have looked throughout the site and even emailed customer support (with no answer) but cannot find anything about average delivery times. I live in England and have order a new alienware m15x which was dispatched early on monday via ups. UPS tracking is still not active on my order (I know it can take up to 4 working days, which I find quite ridiculous frankly) and I am getting frustrated as I have no idea whats happening or when I can expect my order. I was just hoping people could give me an idea of how long it took their order to be delivered once shipped and if someone could tell me where uk alienware orders actually ship from.
I have been reading through dell forums and noticed that some american customers have had their orders listed as shipped but the orders had not actually been picked up by the carrier (i.e. ups). I wonder if anyone in the uk has experienced similar issues with delivery.
Dell :: Studio 1537 Delivery Time
Mar 30, 2009Ordered a Dell Studio 1537 on Thursday 26th March. Estimated delivery time is 14th April. To be honest with you. I think that is a bit of a long wait. Not very happy. On the other hand the payment cleared and it also went through pre-production within a day. It has been in production(phase 3) for 3 days now.
Other than that....
What do you guys think of it. Good laptop? My main specs are Intel� Pentium� Dual-Core Processor T4200 (2.0GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache), 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450, 160 GB HDD.
Dell :: Production And Delivery Time For A Studio
Mar 13, 2009So I've recently ordered a Dell Studio 1537 to replace my ancient Inspiron 6000 . I ordered it on the 10th and it's in production right now, but it says that I shouldn't receive it until the 27th! Does it really take that long? I didn't change anything, all I did was change the color. How long did it actually take to receive yours?

Dell Vostro 3460 :: Not Boot Only Loads The Dell Logo And Then Shows A Black Page
Feb 9, 2013my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?
2 how can I change the boot priority order, to install mint ?

Oct 21, 2008when i first got my dell inspiron and it was all good. when i set the monitor to shut off after 1 minute of being idle, it did and would not turn on unless someone moved the mouse of pressed a button. however, after i reformatted, the computer monitor would shut off after 1 min but soon afterwards it turns on again by itself, then it goes off again, then it remains on permanently. i recently formatted my laptop again and this problem persists. anyone knows whats sup? im using xp ftw... and my configurations are the same as it was before the reformats so idk whats wrong.
