i have noticed that my HDD is making a sound of a fan first i thought it's the fan of the CPU but it's not it's the HDD also he makes this "thinking nosies" all the time even when ideal in windows Vista i personally am a student and cant stand studying from PC with this nosies my HDD model is segagate ST9160821AS 160GB, any ideas about how making it to make less noise? or at least not the fan noise?
I'm running a dual boot on my m1530 with Vista and XP. I used a link I found on these forums to find the XP drivers, put them on the disc, and install them that way. I tried to find the link again, but I cant.
Anyways, the problem is that when I close the laptop lid in XP (the problem does not occur in Vista) the screen goes black (maybe into hibernation?) and I have to hold the power button down to shut down the computer and restart it. I've tried fooling around with settings and that doesnt help.
Maybe it's a driver issue? Can some one lead me to the correct driver...or tell me what else may resolve the problem?
I bought my Inspiron over the telephone direct from Dell about two years back on the strength of my satisfaction with a Dell PC some five years earlier. However I have been so disappointed with it and wish I'd bought a cheapy somewhere. It continually locks up with the hard drive working away on goodness knows what - this can last from a few minutes to leaving it running all night and it will still be locked in the morning - the cursor actually still moves and you can move between open pages but that's it. I wrote three recorded delivery letters to Dell which were ignored.
On line they run through a test and declare it is all operating fine, 'that's it', no problem! I paid £50 for a professional to look at it and he suggested we reload the software. This was supposed to be held in a seperate protected part of the hard drive (as it did not come with software discs) which, after talking to his contact at Dell, he confirmed didn't exist! To cut my losses he arranged for me to buy, more money, a software disc from Dell that he later re-installed for me. The result was absolutely no improvement. I know a few computer 'fans' who have all said 'I'll have a look at it' but all have been baffled. So I have continued to suffer this appauling performance that can lock up sometimes every couple of hours, sometimes every couple of minutes, it can even be locked when I first start it and it then merrily plays with itself for as long as it fancies.
I have had a Dell Inspiron 1545 For 3 years now and Last year the motherboard failed so i had that replaced. 3 of my battery chargers have broken. My Battery Lasts a couple of seconds, Left Mouse stuck in and wont work sometimes. But the main problem is overheating recently the fan literally stopped spinning, it made some weird sounds like clashing and now it doesn't spin AT ALL. My Laptop lasts 30 minutes before overheating and turning off. Another Problem is my wireless networks!?? Sometimes my wireless networks disappear they literally disappear! it cant detect wireless signals so i have to restart my computer to fix it!
My Dell XPS 1645 [see sig for specs] will random shut off on me. I will be doing anything from watching a movie, listening to music, or just browsing and it will random shut off. They are like days apart but It shut off 3 times on my today :S.
These shut offs are not Temperature related as In BOTH Windows and Ubuntu it has shut off and I have been monitoring temperature in both, with log files so I can check the temperature @ shut off time.
I live in Jamaica and it would be kind of hard for me to just send it in to have it looked at. I'm hoping the next BIOS revision along with fresh installs of both OS's will do the trick.
I've had the E6400 for about a week. It's been perfect until today. Three times now, the computer has just shut down as I was using it, not falling asleep, obviously. It won't start right back up; I have to wait about 30 seconds and then it boots back up to normal. The fan is working and I set the power settings myself.
When I turn off the computer, it does not turn off all the time (sometimes it does, and most of the time it doesn't), the screen truns off like it wants to shut down, but then the computer hangs up, with the HDD disk light flashing, and it never shuts down, requiring a hard shut down.
I have not installed any new software...nothing different has happened, and I did try system restore, going back quite a ways, it did not work....
I have replaced my old CPU (T8300 2.4/3M/800) with a new CPU (NEW SLGEE Dell Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 3.06GHZ/6MB/1066 Mhz Socket P CPU Processor )...All I get now is when I start the computer the "power LED" will blink once and beep once and then the "battery led" will blink once and then it will shut off. If I remove the new CPU and replace it with my old CPU it works fine...Does this sound like the new CPU is bad or not supported by my motherboard? From what my manual tells me this CPU should be supported by my motherboard. My manual says it can handle Intel Core 2 Duo, 6MB and 1066 FSB. Dell verified that my system is socket P.
I'm using either a usb or bluetooth mouse with my new XPS 15z, and i'm getting tired of a problem...
The trackpad is impossible to shut down for good... i mean: indeed you can disable it, turn it off, and even tell it to turn off when usb mouse is plugged, but it never really does, it always, always, always stays on for a second before shutting down...
In other words: my trackpad is disabled, both buttons and touch, and i use a bluetooth mouse. but even it is disabled, if i pass my fingers on it, the cursor moves for 1cm before shutting down... then i wait 2 minutes, and i pass my fingers on it again, and then again the cursor moves 1 cm before stopping moving.
So it is never really shut down, with the consequence i never can type text without my hand touching it and putting the cursor somewhere in the page and i have to put the cursor back to where it was,
For example it happened 5 times when typing this very text....
I have updated the cypress trackpad drivers to last up to date version...
Recently i had infamous video problem on M1330, so Dell replaced the motherboard.
But after that my m1330's video is fine, but it just shut down all of sudden. sometimes it shuts down when it is booting or it shuts down after 20-30 mins of use .....
This morning when I turned the M6400 on, my wireless had shut down, showing a X on the tray icon.
It has been working fine under my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for weeks, since I used the free upgrade I got from the Microsoft Windows 7 demo. The Intel 5300 was fine in device manager.
When I ran the Intel ProSet Wireless diagnostics, it said that the Radio is Switched Off. The driver is the latest Intel 13.0.0 version for Windows 7 64bit.
I called Dell Business Support and the tech spent an hour uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, reinstalling the ProSet utilities and trying to find a way to get the radio to switch on.
He tried to uninstall the Intel generic driver and install the older Dell driver, but apparently could not get the Intel to uninstall, so the installation of the older driver kept failing.
i was watching family guy in the kitchen today and when i plugged the laptop back into the AC adapter it just shut down,
i attempted to restart but it will not boot up at all ive attempted to take the battery out and then try with that however nothing happens at all any ideas on what ive done and how to fix it?
It started about a week ago. All the sudden I went to pick up my laptop while it was open and the screen just shut off.
The computer was running, but the screen wouldn't come back on. I tried closing it and opening it and it didn't do anything....so I turned it off and back on and it would flicker light in the bottom right hand corner but no image would appear.
Then eventually, after I kept trying it just started working again like normal until yesterday when I was watching a video and all the sudden it just shut the screen off..
I just got my new Dell Inspiron 5523 laptop last week and have noticed that it will frequently just shut down on me. It isn't plugged in, doesn't feel hot and I don't even have anything up but IE. What is going on? A brand new laptop shouldn't be acting this way...
I just got back from work trying to power up my laptop but its not booting. There was a few times it did turn on but it would just shut off afterwards I'm not sure if its the motherboard since the battery isn't charging anymore or the ac. This problem just happened randomly.
I'm wondering if there is a way to shut down the Screen monitor on (Dell xps studeio 1640) while it's working downloading?
Usually there is a button on the keyboard for this kind of task, but I haven't been able to find any (Fn+Button) combination on the keyboard for this particular task..
PS. I know that putting the laptop screen all the way down is a way 2 solve this, but im looking for other or -the Button "shutdown" alternative....
I've had this laptop for the best part of two months now and it has been excellent up to now. However, it has now shut down completely 4 times within the same day - with absolutely no warning. It doesn't feel as if it has overheated but I'm only touching the outer shell.
I would like to send it in for repairs. The problem I am experiencing is as follows: suddenly shut off, does not turn on, the power supply LED light (on the AC adapter) shuts off the moment I plug it into the computer.
Model : DELL Vostro V131Here is my problem When i press shut down, the laptop will shut down as usual but at the end the processor and the lid is still on.. I tried shut down in safe mode but it get stuck at the shut down screen.and When i put my laptop into sleep mode, no matter i press what button, it still wont awake..
after reinstall, about 3 weeks ago when i played game i get my CPU and Mainboard to 90C. In 2 minutes, my computer shut down, i tried to start computer by power button, but it shut down in 1 sec... just flashing. After 1 minute i started computer..I upgraded BIOS, install recommended drivers also i have cooling pad which i using on HDDs.
OS: Windows 8 x64..I think it's HDD or Mainboard overheating or maybe CPU, because it has 85C too.
My laptop just shut down on me out of nowhere. The battery wasn't low, in fact it had just finished charging. It wouldn't turn back on until I plugged it back in and tried. The battery is at 86%, not charging. The battery indicator light flashes red 4 times, then white then off.
It can now only run when it is plugged in. I can start my laptop and it runs fine while plugged in but as soon as it is unplugged, it shuts off.
I assume this is a hardware issue and what caused it. Nonetheless, I used the diagnostic tools provided and found no issue and tried a system restore to no avail.
My laptop is a few weeks out of warranty (classic)...
Recently, I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 1420 as it's often freeze and auto shut down or restart. When it freezes, my screen will appear many small black pixels which are scattered around the desktop.
During the restart process, the system will require me to choose one of the few options available (eg. Start Windows Normally) as it stated there that the laptop was not shut down properly.
Remarks: My Dell Inspiron 1420 is equipped with NVidea 8400M GS.
I've recently encountered a problem where every time my Studio 17 is supposed to go to sleep mode (closing lid, clicking sleep mode in start menu, etc.)
it becomes a hard shut-down, where I have to turn on the laptop again and it tells me that the laptop was shut down improperly.
My power settings indicate that it is supposed to go to sleep mode, but it actually doesn't
For me it happens when I shut the laptop screen and open it again right away. If I wait a few beats before I open it, the screen lights up again just fine.
But if I open it right away after closing it, the screen goes blank, though the laptop seems to be running just fine.
Hitting Fn-CRT/LCD does nothing, nor do any other of the function keys. I even tried hooking up an external monitor and banging away at the CRT/LCD combo, but the external monitor is just as blank as the laptop LCD.
Hard power-down will restart the laptop and the screen comes back fine, but you've lost any unsaved work .....
My Inspiron 15 3521 just started with the boot problems and beeping. It is not consistent in when it will boot up. If it doesn't boot up, which is most of the time, it will beep. One single beep about every 2 seconds with a black screen, until I power it off. I have run hardware diagnostics and it passed. I have refreshed my pc, didn't work.
