Running updated Win7 Home Premium. Had Vista originally. No recovery partition, but have recovery discs. Tried latest Media Smart version4.1.4328, also known as: sp50486.exe. Updating it within Media Smart takes me to Cyberlink, but does not work. This has been an ongoing issue since I bought the laptop in 10/2009. The laptop does recognize the disc is in the drive. It does play regular DVD movies.
View 9 Repliesi have recently purchased and HP Envy 17 laptop and have been trying to backup all of my iPhone 5s photos and videos onto the laptop however every time i try to play videos either through the photos folder or the photos library app nothing works.In the photo app the app just freezes and crashes and in the photos documents folder media player just comes up not responding. This happens with the vast majority of my videos.
I have seen that other people have had the same issue and i have installed the VLC video app as suggested and still nothing works. There has been an IOS update since i started taking videos however this makes no diffeence as the handful of videos that do work are from both before and after the update so it can not be an issue with my phone and the videos i have taken in the last few days dont work... how i can fix this?
I've just bought a HP Pavillion laptop, it runs on Windows 8.1, but am unable to play any form of disc in the optical drawer. They whizz around, but i get nothing on the screen, so am unable to play dvd's/cd's or even load a disc for my printer. I've gone in to Device Manager, and selected cd/dvd, and have an error message saying 'Windows cannot start this hardware driver because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19).

How do I get the sound working and stay working as well as the videos becoming playable? so far the only option that has worked is shutting down the PC and tuning it back on, but the issues reoccurs within 10 minutes.

My Pavilion g7 speaker will not play. It works with external speakers or headphones. One computer repair shop said the IDT driver was missing. The tech guy at the place where I purchased the PC said if the driver was missing or not working no audio would play at all even on headphones. How can I determine if the speakers are inop or just not enabled properly etc?

Before, it would not play any sound, now it will play the support assistant narration, but nothing else.
For a while, it has been playing sound every now and then, now it will not at all, except for the narration.
Using earphone, when i play vidoes. I can hear static or hissing sound on the background, and stops after 5 seconds of closing media player...

I burned two ISO files(Memtest86+ & latest DBAN 2.2.8 CD bootable ISO software ) onto two different blank CD-Rs on two different ocassions by using the in-built Windows burner in my system, also used Cyberlink ISO file burner/Mount as Virtual drive.
Tried booting from CD by following Step 1 to 4 given in this MS link . After that clicked Select a USB Device, then boot from Internal DVD/CD Drive, then OK. It took some time to process & after that I got this screen:
When I entered BIOS Setup clicking F10 and there on Boot Device options, I got this screen:
I'm not able to understand why I can't boot from any CD.
I just installed a Windows 7 64 Bit (Professional) onto my HP Pavilion DV6-7014nr, and now it is unable to detect any networks. I checked device manager and there is not even a tab for network adapters and the only message I see on diagnostics is "Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver." Where do I find the specific driver I need and how do I get it onto my laptop without being able to use the internet on it? Also, I noticed under "Other devices" in the device manager that almost everything under it has the yellow triangle mark next to it, like for the ethernet controller, network controller, PCI device, USB controller, etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Pavilion dv6-6173cl laptop. It's been working fine until recently, when I left it on overnight to finish downloading a huge file. When I tried to adjust the brightness the next morning, I couldn't (though it was still at full brightness like I always keep it). So I thought, "why not reboot it?" I rebooted and now the display is the dimmest it can get with no way of adjusting the brightness using the brightness keys, control panel, or otherwise.
This has happened before. When it did, I did a factory reset on it and it fixed the problem. However, although there is no absolutely critical data on there and I can always make a backup, I prefer to not have to go through all that if it's avoidable. I have an external display that HP asked me to connect it to to see if it was a hardware or software issue. The external display was at full brightness, so when they asked me to ship it in I did a factory reset and that solved the problem. And now it's back.

I searched this site and downloaded the appropriate driver for my notebook. But when i tried to install, i receive an error message that my notebook is not supported. I'm unable to see anything on the screen unless I shine a flashlight onto it, and even then I can barely see. When I connect it to an external monitor it works fine. I phoned Microsoft Support and was told that my wifi driver was out of date and that this needs to reinstalled. I have had a look at available downloads for network drivers but I am unsure how to establish which one I need.... there are 4 options.
Under Device Manager > Network Adapters, there was only one driver which needed update according to this. The Realtek PCle FE Family Controller. When I checked for updates here is said that it had updated successfully, but I am STILL unable to connect to the internet.

Somehow, he managed to get an app on there which ran at startup and resulted in it slowing down internet access to a crawl as well as making the machine virtually unusable . In an effort to get rid of it, he attempted running restore. However, neither destructive or non-destructive options would work. He was getting error messages - firstly 'Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing', followed by 'The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again'. I managed to locate the program that was causing the problem, and uninstalled it. He asked me to reset the computer to factory state, but unfortunately, this will not work - it starts up, warns that all data will be lost and I confirm that I want to proceed. It then appears to start the process, but almost immediately ends shows a message saying that no changes have been made. Where do I go from here?
