View 6 RepliesI made the mistake of upgrading my X240 to Windows 8.1, and now the sleep function won't work properly. I've updated all of the drivers and I've been on the phone with Lenovo support to no avail. Everything worked perfectly before the 8.1 upgrade.
When I close the lid now, the screen goes off, but the computer doesn't go to sleep; if you open the lid, the screen comes back on immediately. If the lid is closed for a while, and is then reopened, the login screen comes up. But in the Windows 8.1 settings, it is set to NOT show the login screen. If the lid is closed for a long time, the computer will shut down completely.
If you go to the Windows menu and click on "Sleep," the screen will go dark although it's clear the computer is still running. Pressing the on/off button does nothing. The only way to get the screen to come back on is to shut the computer down completely and restart it.
I tried uninstalling the Lenovo Instant On Beta program, but without that, closing the lid shuts off the screen with no way to wake it up, the same thing that happens by clicking Sleep on the Windows menu. So it appears that the Instant On Program partially overrides whatever bad behavior is being caused by Windows.
What driver, software, or settings could be causing this? I've looked at various threads about sleep issues, but none of them seem to apply to my situation, or the solutions they recommended (like unchecking the power management features on some of the drivers) didn't solve the problem.
The F11 key on my laptop is disabled recently. It's not glowing in red when I press it. Furthermore, the laptop have no sound at all regarless I press on F9 or F10 Keys. It's only function when I restart the laptop each time.

I am running Windows 8.0 (64bit) and my wifi is not working properly on Battery mode. On AC Adapter, it works 100% perfect but in battery mode, it always goes to Limited Connectivity. Repaired it but 25seconds later it gets the same problem. Limited Connectivity every single time. It's an endless cycle. Warranty has expired and I am not happy with it.
Even if repaired, cannot open any website. Full 5 wifi bars but still the same result. Tried manually (TCP/IP Settings IPv4) but didnt work at all.
My wifi driver is Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 ( 15.12.0.6 version updated from intel.com website).

Tried everything that I could possibly think off such as disabling Norton Firewall & Running windows firewall but still the same problem.
Updated everything from HP.
I have a HP pavillion dv9610us Notebook which i never really have had issues with until now. As of this past week, when I close my lid and the notebook goes to sleep it is getting so friggin hot now when I come back to use it when before it never did.

After that i can't do anything, but the laptop is just running.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, model 15-e055st, which I purchased two months ago with Windows 8 pre-installed. I susequently upgraded the operating system to Windows 8.1 and all seemed to work OK. I then used the HP Support Assistant to do some important updates, which included the BIOS and other software. Following the HP update the computer would not Shut Down or Sleep, but Restart worked OK. When I attempt to Shut Down or Sleep, the screen goes black but the power light and the wifi light on the keyboard remain on and the fan is still operating. The machine will not recover from this situation without me first doing a hard reset by keeping the power button pressed for about five seconds.
I trıed restoring the software to the condition prior to the HP update but the problem still existed. Two days ago I refreshed the computer, which rolled the operating system back from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.0 but the Shut Down/Sleep problem is still there.
I have a one year old HP Envy M6 and it has just recently began acting up. It will not come out of sleep mode when I jiggle the mouse or press keys on the keyboard. Also, instead of going in to sleep mode, it seems to switch to hibernate. Sometimes I can press the power key lightly and it seems to do a shorter startup (my browser will ask if I want to "restore" the previous session, the documents are saved in a temp file, but still the HP logo appears as it is booting up). Other times the power light is already on, but it won't wake up at all and so I have to do a hard reboot by pressing the power button until it shuts itself off and restarts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased an HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook Windows 7 Professional (PC Product #: E1P05AV). I'll usually close the lid to put it into sleep mode when I have to do something else. But when I open it back up, it has the "Start windows normally or safe mode" sreen. I've noticed that this only happens after a certain amount of time of being in sleep mode. If I wake it up prior to that, it works just fine. I hope that this can be resolved since this is a brand new laptop.

When I try and use the USB ports on my laptop, the system does not acknowledge the device is plugged in, nor allows the device to operate. There are no error messages and the safetly remove hardware icon does not appear. This problem began after I ran a couple of Windows Updates before shutting my computer down for the night.
The devices worked properly before but have since stopped. Multiple devices have been tried, but to no avail.

I was doing some work on my laptop this morning and I was in the middle of working on something. Somehow the screen went blank. I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't let me. I tried holding the on button for 30 seconds, it still won't turn on. This laptop is not that old.
I own an HP Envy dv6 Notebook PC, MOdel No.2CE243OCYT. It has an Atheros AR9485 802.11 b:g:n WiFi adapter. There is an HP update for that adapter, but when I updated it, I was unable to connect to the internet. I realize that this WiFi adapter is only for 2.5G. I had to refresh my laptop, then I had internet access again. I have not tried that driver update again, but TWC just updated my Cable modem to dual band using the 2.5G and 5G bands.I am afraid to install the Atheros update in my lapotop again because I don't want to go though the hassle of re-installing all my software pd[rograms again. Is there a dual band WiFi adapter that HP recommends, and is it easy to install?

I have uninstalled/re-installed the driver, rebooted, and still no sound. When I right-click Speakers/HP, and Test - the pop-up says Device in Use. There are no legit applications using the device. I have been running Windows Defender since I used the official HP Recovery Discs I ordered. I have not visited questionable websites, yet, it looks like I have malware?
I use an HP ENVY M6 notebook running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I was seeing a lot of unwanted popups telling me I needed Java or other add ons which I don't. The computer is less than a month old. I went to that day's downloads and deleted everything I found from that day. Since then, I have no sound. I probably deleted something but I thought I was pretty careful. Can I download a sound card?

No issues except the Samsung Magician SSD software keeps flagging me that AHCI mode is disabled and needs to be enabled and I do not see it in BIOS. Nor do I see anything that relates to it in Device manager like IDE or whatever.
It appears the SSD is not optimizing itself based on the fact it thinks AHCI is disabled.
I have recently had my broadband upgraded to 5Ghz 100mbps however my HP ENVY m6-1310sa can't detect the 5G band. I just want to know if it has the right network card to do this, my laptop supports 802.11n which should be able to,yet still can't detect the 5ghz, whereas my phone and tablet can detect it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my PC to windows 8.1 sometime back and had no issue with simplepass initially. I then suddenly could not swipe my finger and log in.
I am at a loss as to what to do because, I have depended on using this for lots of my web-sites etc. (keeping my password secure) but now I cannot use my finger print recognition to do so and have to type my master password each time.
I bought this computer for the ease of managing my security but HP has made me loose confidence in their products given the battle I am facing.
I am worried about installing any updated software as one solution suggests because I am not sure it will solve the problem without deleting my exiting password data files etc.
I have a problem with my HP Envy dv6 notbook. It can't find and connect to the wifi. But the other laptops in the house do. And when I can make connection its very weak and shut down continuous.

The laptop: HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC (15-j173cl)
Windows 8.1 Pro
The problem: I use an external monitor, so my laptop is usually shut. Randomly, my touch screen THINKS something is touching it, which disrupts whatever I'm doing. I would like to disable the touch screen completely, as I do not use it at all.
I thought maybe the latch wasn't closing properly, but the screen resolution changes when I shut the laptop, so it KNOWS it's closed and switches to the proper resolution for my external monitor, but it DOES NOT disactivate the touch screen, and some dirt or something is touching it, changing where my mouse is pointed, where I am typing, etc.
I have tried cleaning the screen and keyboard with compressed air.
The problem happens randomly; sometimes when I CAD for the day, sometimes after hours of working.
I've had my HP envy Touchsmart 15-J102sa for about 3 months now and ever since I've had it, it runs really slow at time. It's occurs more often when I'm on the internet browsing or watching a video on youtube. When It starts running slow, it say the page is not responding for about 3 mins then it displays the page and start working at normal speed again. I really need any sort of solutions that might fix it, I know for a fact that it's not a virus because I scan pc everytime I turn it on.
